Camera Survey 7/20/14

Time to put out cameras for the MLDP survey.  I started off with something new from Dubya's,

a Sloppy Joe Sunday!

Cool and wet enough in July for a fire...

 Cameras and bait sites.

Smoked ribs and chicken for dinner.

Smoothed out the last load of clay for the water control extensions.

Set a pipe for the trolling motor duck that will provide some water movement on calm days.

The dove plot is maturing nicely and has tons of browntop millet, german foxtail, sorghum, and even some sunflowers seeding out.

On they way home the gray ghost rolled 300K!

Summer Food Plots

Finally got the summer food plots in the weekend of May 19th.  Load up, mow, disk, plant.

Stuck for 10 minutes waiting on this train...They need to work on parking short of the crossing.

3 weeks later the cow peas are coming up great!

 The Dove plot with lots of German Foxtail and Brown Top Millet.  It's about time to rotate cattle into this pasture so we put up a hot fence to try and keep them off it till everything seeds out...

One last load of clay for the flashboard riser extensions and all I need to do is smooth out and add some sacks of Quikrete.

I got on board with a bull red!

We took a lunch break on the home boat everyday.

 Fishing the beach side.  We caught several keeper reds and a good trout in the surf.

Incredible sunsets way out here!

We ended up with 100 keeper trout and 40 reds.

Headed home.

Awesome trip other than having to drive on Louisiana roads to get there.  Always happy to get back home to Texas!

Hill Country Turkey Weekend

Before heading to Houston and San Antonio for business I managed to get the buggy and suburban stuck while topping off a couple feeders.  The buggy doesn't like the swamp when it has 500lbs of corn on the back!  I did get a good workout in when I had to wade back through the water then jog 2 miles through the woods to the barn where I left the suburban and cell phone.  I managed to get back to the buggy and pull it out and get it on the trailer only to stick everything again on the way out...ANEIET

I made it to the ranch Friday afternoon to scout birds and found quite a few.  14 separate gobblers and they were all fired up.  Here is a video from the scouting and kill shot with the bow.

John and the bird he took about 3 seconds after I stuck mine.

After missing point blank at 20 yards (not sure what happened there) I dropped him when he stopped again at 33 yards!

Another Big Pig Down 2/8/14

Cleaning up after duck season.

Lilly creek got out of it's banks so there's lots of water in the bottom pasture and timber.

Of course filling and maintaining feeders.

It started snowing while filling feeders.

Another evening after getting the .308 dialed in.  125 yards to the feeder and the HSM subsonic round did the job.

 Too heavy to lift by myself into the bed so had to let him ride shotgun...
