5/10/13 Summer Food Plots

We finally got some summer food plots planted and as of this post we are getting a good soaking rain so I hope to update with some good looking plot pics in a few weeks.

We also cleared a spot to relocate a feeder and stand in the planted pines on the edge of the bottom.

Hogs are always tearing something up.  They got into a deer pen and knocked over one of the feeders.

Cow peas, sorghum, and brown top millet for the deer and dove.

Duck pond drawn down to let the smartweed and Jap millet grow for the ducks.

Deer Lease Crawfish Boil

We sighted in a couple new guns and then shot plates at the pistol range.

I grabbed my bow and tried to intercept a gobbler going to roost Friday night.  I had a hen at 13 yards and a young gobbler at 24 but the big boys came in from the opposite side and never gave me a chance.

Texas Independence Day

We celebrated the weekend with some beer, BBQ, and bonfires!

Elan ear holed another hog Friday night.

It had a messed up lower jaw/mouth that we imagine was from a failed assassination attempt earlier this year...

We caught 10 little crappie Saturday afternoon.

I took out a couple more raccoons Saturday night.

Sausage, boudin, and ribs for dinner.

Now that's a bonfire!

Remnants from making things go boom.

I did some post season scouting and came across the usual, trees on the road.  I did find a nice scrape and a rub line I can watch next year.

The pines that burned last year were replanted this week.
