"Ain't Nothing Easy in East Texas" Dove Hunt

Had a great time and even had a pretty good dove hunt for around here.  We killed 26 birds Saturday morning, 21 Saturday evening, and got rained out Sunday morning.  No hogs but there was a buzzard killed with a head shot at about 200 yards, a "long-tailed" bob cat, and coyote.  The weekend lived up to its name as well.

Fires

As anyone in Texas knows, there have been many wildfires and we finally had one on our place that burned up some 5 and 10 year old pine plantation.  County and state firefighters and the Texas Forest Service were on hand to put it out and provide support.

 We only lost some pine trees but we had a couple neighbors lose their homes.  All that remains of this one are the concrete front steps.

Breakfast Sausage

It's been so dry the hogs are coming all the way up the pasture from the creek bottom to get water from the lake by the lodge.  The other morning my dad decided to have sausage for breakfast!

I also made a trip to Waco for a football fantasy draft weekend and to pick up a grain drill that should come in handy for planting oats, cow peas, sorghum, millet, etc. for the deer, pigs, dove and ducks!

(A veritable buffet as one might say)

There is normally water between the truck and trees.  Lots of smartweed growing and we will be planting some millet in a few spots too.  Just need lots of rain this fall.

This tree branch ended our day.  Anybody have a used 35x12.50x15 mud tire?!?
