Sand Pond Deer

I hunted a friend's place near Palestine and we put some meat on the ground!

I drew blood Friday night.  Deer went about 200 yards before piling up.  Took a quartering away shot that took out his liver and clipped one lung.  Blood trail was very poor but I had 4 friends helping out and we made the recovery.  He was laying about 15 yards from where we found my arrow he finally kicked out.

Sam dropped this hog the next morning with his bow

And Casey killed this buck

It was a great weekend minus the hot 75 degree plus weather and slow deer movement.  We just got lucky and capitalized on the few opportunities this weekend gave us.

Gun Opener

I hunted Friday night with the stick and string down in the oak bottom.  Greg sat on the high line and saw one doe that didn't get within range.  Saturday it stayed foggy till an hour or two after shooting light and saw nothing either hunt.

I also hunted Thursday evening and saw zero deer but watched 2 Bald Eagles fly around for a few seconds.  Incredible!

ETEX Oats and Old Deer

Oats are coming up well and we will be hunting over them this opening weekend.  Finally got some pics of mature deer moving through the area so we hope the rut is about to kick off!

7 doe in one picture...What?!?

Hill Country

I hunted the lease in Wimberley last weekend and almost literally got blown out of the tree.  Finally got a good cold front but could have done without the 20mph wind all weekend.

The grey ghost was burning fossils on this stretch of highway!

Refreshments

We never starve at camp...smoked a brisket, shoulderclod, and pork butt on the BGE.
