01/21/12 Duck Armor

I left the office early enough to sit in the stand Friday night and try to pick off a hog or...  This doe and a button buck came out and walked right under one of my ladder stands.  They hung out feeding in the pasture on planted oats for about 30 minutes.  Nothing else came out till after dark and I'll post that video when I can get it uploaded.

The blind is getting better with each load of brush hauled out and put on it.  Getting harder to see!

The ducks were tough to kill this morning.  We shot our 3 limits and they were down on the water but when we sent Brew to fetch them up they would get up as if not hit.  It was the strangest thing we have ever seen.  We ended up with 8 recovered mallards and 3 ninjas.  Dan was shooting green while Peacock was dusting the hens!  Overcast NNW wind but very light.  50 degrees.

Dan is still captivated with SNAP-E-TOM, our newest beverage sponsor.  (If you see it, buy it.  It's worth reading the description on the can!  We do this at least twice everytime in the blind.)

Holiday

Markets were closed for the holiday so I got away for a quick morning hunt, filled a couple other feeders, and added some brush to a blind we plan on hunting this weekend.

I was riding some new roads we cut in and blew a hub or axle shaft going across a tiny creek and lost 4x4.  It doesn't look that bad but it took the tractor to get unstuck.

Sand Pond 01/07/2012

Breakfast, lunch and dinner for the weekend!

We had warm weather so there were only a few ducks but the gators were out.

Mid-morning refreshments!

Bacon, egg, chorizo and cheese breakfast tacos with bloody marys.
.

We ran over to "The Big Woods" Saturday afternoon to see how they did and Dan used the ford as a lethal weapon.

Wood duck hole - 6 WD, 1 GWT, 1 Gadwall

Dan and Baker waiting on some birds.

Dan showing off his hat and custom gun holder.

Sunday morning breakfast of bacon, eggs, chorizo, deer sausage, and biscuits (and a bloody mary or two).  There is nothing better than cooking everything in a nice big cast iron skillet.

Duck 1/2/2012

Beaver pond.  30 degrees calm wind that picked up at 9:00 NNW.  Another slow day (we had 9 birds at 10:00) but Justin shot his first Greenhead!

Jared and myself.

We had seen a couple groups of birds go down on a pond about 700 yards away so we decided to put a sneak on them after picking up decoys.  4 Gadwalls were still there and for the first time ever in my memory we killed every bird jumping a tank to finish out 2 limits!

Duck 12/28/2011

We hunted the beaver pond and had a slow day.  Clear day and we managed 7 birds by 9:30.  Barely a NW wind and 30 degrees.

Adam with a limit plus one.
