First Hunt 2010/2011

I met my buddy at the lease this weekend to get some work done and have a little fun. We accomplished both and then some! Usually the first time out hunting during the year is to get on some pigs or a bird hunt. This year starts out a little different and kicks off the season right.

Golf at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal

Checking the trail cameras, clearing brush, filling feeders, and running the wasps out of the blinds

As you can see from the camera pics I had a couple good reasons to get up early and sit in a blind Saturday morning. Fishing, shooting the bow, cooking, and relaxing by the fire under the moon

And the early season payoff on Saturday morning was a great Axis buck! My first ever and a nice one considering this place is relatively small and low fenced. These deer got out of a neighbor's place sometime in the past few years when floods took out some fencing and they have been thriving on this place since. This one is going on the wall and will put some great meat in the freezer.

Squeaky the herding pig

A buddy from Oregon sent me this video and I wasn't sure what to say. So I sent it to Brian "The Pigman" Quaca for a response.

Here is what he said...And I quote "Don't know where Squeaky lives, but he'd better keep his distance...lol. We ain't in the business of pettin' hogs down here."

Well said my friend. Catch Pigman TV on the Outdoor Channel Sundays at 8:00pm Texas time. Here is a preview...

Destruction

Hogzilla attacked again and took out another feeder. Got everything back up and running and double wired the feeder legs to the T posts to help prevent this in the future.

The culprit?
Little corn thieves

Bacon... "You know, pork from a pig down here"

Bass Tournament

We had a little tournament at my buddy Dave's ranch lakes to have some fun and control the bass population. We had 7 2-man teams $100 buy in per man and payout for most fish between 8 and 16 inches and heaviest 3 between 16 and 22 inches. Dave and I were just shy of winning the heavy bag but caught several over 22 inches. Number of fish winning total was 40 and most teams averaged 25. Best 3 went 8.6 lbs.

Jake ready to go!

Joe and Todd with the winning heavy sack. (Check out our custom weigh-in bag!)

Refreshments

Smoked a brisket, 2 pork butts, 3 chickens, and some sausage for lunch. We did a big fish fry for dinner.
